crap on a stick. The new college football is like a game of Yahtzee. If you remember that game, you pick all the pieces and put them in the little barrel and tumble them out on the board. Welcome to college football 2024 and beyond. I am not saying that some will stick around but it is clear in our new era that G5 studs are NOT sticking around out of loyalty on a high percentage basis. I am not even criticizing these guys. It is just the new norm. The fact that it is worse than professional teams that at least have contracts that occasionally a dude tries to break to a game of musical chairs is just hideous. Sanity or a new form of it will eventually appear but not for a while. Puke, gag and barf........!!!!!!!!

Caleb Ransaw and Derrick Graham have entered Jackson DL and Barber WR have entered the portal. Would not be surprised if Chris Lewis ends up there as well. His statement about staying in Troy was before the NCAA granted immediate eligibility to everyone who wants to transfer, and before the new coach was announced. With so many players leaving, he may have New Orleans on his mind. Would love to keep him though.
That said, I was pleased with how well signing day went, but recurring the current roster has not gone well. Jackson, Barber, and McDonald are huge losses. Some of these guys entering the portal have graduated and that's understandable, but there will be more to come I'm sure.
CGP will need to hit the portal hard, and will have to do an incredible coaching job for us to have a great season.

Adios.
Honestly I don't care that guys leave because it's all business these days. This is why Gunnar is the GOAT though. Hopefully HCGP can bring in some pieces and keep this thing rolling.

1ST, I want, hope and will cheer for another SB championship. I’d prepare for a “thin” team in 2024 with 6-6 not out of the realm of possibility, given all the turnover and unknowns.
Word on the street is Sumrall knew all to and very well of the retooling/rebuilding situation this program was to come 2024 and that why he was talking to everyone, MS St., Duke, Tulane, etc. that would listen. in order to maximize his current worth, he had to get out at the high point. I understand it, it worked. He set him and his family up for life.
It just sucks for my beloved Troy.

Gunnar probably is the last of a breed for a while. It will be odd not to see Gunnar’s daddy on game days. (He may still come) but that man never met a stranger. Gunnar was tough and while not perfect he will be missed.

I get the NIL, don’t necessarily agree with all aspects of it, but I understand it. But can someone please explain to me what’s up with all the transferring? IMO, it’s ruining college athletics, especially the G5. The rich (programs) keep getting richer.

Zach long committed to Bowling Green… weird I watched Troy play there once. The stadium was junk. A downgrade for Zach.

I'll be surprised if Chris Lewis stays at this point. Unless he just really wants to stay close by so that his family can see him play.
And yes, we might as well go ahead and call 2024 a rebuilding year unless Gerad Parker pulls off a 10+ win miracle season. It's going to be difficult though.
This all looks very similar to what happened to Louisiana after their 13-1 season and lost their coach... they wound up losing most of their starters to the portal. They went 6-7 the next year.

I think it'll be a rebuild but maybe not a total rebuild. We will see what happens. We still have some solid pieces I'm excited to see next season.

That our former coach saw that circumstances weren't going to be as favorable as where his feet were and that despite the ideal of "keep showing up" (no matter what) that bailing would be the better option when things actually got difficult is, not unexpected in today's world, but an even greater disappointment still. It seems a bit of a thin veneer of ability and success. Is the teacher of geniuses a great teacher when they all graduate successfully with 4.0's or is the teacher with the down-and-outs and failures who lifts them above a 3.0 great? I guess he saw success was going to be more difficult in year three and that might ding his rep, so he said "so what....now what...time to move on before it gets hard, that's what."

In July, he told me that we would probably take some lumps this season, but it's okay because 2024 could be very special. He felt really good about the younger guys coming up for next season. So the narrative of leaving before he had to rebuild is false.

Everyone pissed off at XHCJS are freaking idiots. Man made a financial decision to better his family. In the words of a great man..."eff them kids" Troy doesn't care about a coach or professor. If they screw up, their head is on a chopping block. Doesn't matter how great they've been. Why show loyalty to an institution that'll throw you under the bus at the first chance they get.
Back on topic, from what I've seen, most of these are grad transfers? So congrats men on getting a diploma, good luck in the future with your advanced degrees.

As I stated multiple times, you give me $3.5 mil vs $1mil and in NO vs. Troy ? No brainer for me. I’m on that jet. Why you can’t get attached to these coaches, they mercenaries at heart. It’s the business now. My point JS was at a high point after B2B championships, knowing it was going to be a whole lot tougher the following years to repeat, he l was applying for every job that he was interested in. He was out there in the market selling him. A lot of people on this board were saying “Jon would never do that, he loves Troy, I just talked to him, etc. “ And what you said is true and why coaches seek and take the bag of money, because if they lose, they gone. And most of the transfers have at least 2 years left.
