Speaking of transfers... Remember QB Peter Costelli? He transferred to Northern Colorado after last season. Northern Colorado just went 0-11... and Costelli never played a snap. It seems as though Costelli may not have been the real deal after all. We have had little to zero luck with P5 QB transfers. Missouri, Vandy, WVU, Utah....zilch The WVU guy won us a couple of ball games. Instrumental in the WKU game.

So far looks like 4 or 5 guys in the portal. None of them had significant playing time.

Let's take Grayson McCall and watch the rest of the SBC lose their minds.

Let's take Grayson McCall and watch the rest of the SBC lose their minds. With HCJS and staff, everything's on the table!

My hope is we get a HS gem like Coastal did with McCall and have a there -four year run with them. How about we find a high school gem like Ex HCNB did with Gunnar Watson and have a good run with him? Why look outside our program for examples of players that have been successful? We won 2 conference titles with Gunnar, and probably could have won more with good QB development.

I AGREE, maybe the Troy coaches can go out and find some QBs from high school ranks like: State of Alabama ... Took his team to the state playoffs, earned All-State honors, had a career with 7,818 passing yards, 104 touchdowns and just 12 interceptions and rushed for 1,550 yards with 18 touchdowns. State of Tennessee ... Took his team to the state playoffs, earned All-State honors, a top 90 quarterback in the country and top 60 player in Tennessee, #54 quarterback in the country per ESPN, had a career with 5,195 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and rushed (one season totals only) for 522 yards and seven touchdowns. I LIKE the sound of these two!! HOPEFULLY our current football staff is doing exactly what you suggested above.

Our kickoff specialist, Zack Long, is in the portal. Lead the Sun Belt in kicking average and touchbacks.

Let's take Grayson McCall and watch the rest of the SBC lose their minds. The meltdown that would happen would be unbelievable. I'm sure he winds up going to a P5 though.

We had a pretty good QB from TN sitting at 3rd string at the start of 2008 and we know how that turned out.

Hopefully we can keep guys like Kimani Vidal and Chris Lewis. Vidal has the opportunity to declare for the draft. With a new coach, I think we'll see a few juniors do just that. Some of them probably would have done that anyway.

Hopefully we can keep guys like Kimani Vidal and Chris Lewis. I think Kimani actually graduates either December or in the Spring with one year left - he might declare, but he either stays or enters the portal. We shall know pretty soon. Lewis can't transfer without losing a year - he might declare. One more season might do him some good as this year was his only body of work. I have no problem if KV transfer to a bigger program. He lived up to his end of the agreement. Same with Chris. It's imperative we name a successor sooner rather than later - like this week. I am hearing we are losing several coaches as well.

Some coaches are essentially gone. Just waiting on the paperwork from TU. JS assistant pool money is a lot better than Troy’s

Some of them probably would have done that anyway. For what it's worth, Kimani and Javon both went through Senior Day activities. Javon gave me a non-answer when I asked him if he had decided and smirked the entire time. So, I would just about bet he declares for the draft.

One more season might do him some good as this year was his only body of work. If your coach leaves, you are automatically granted one free transfer, regardless of a player's transfer history. EDIT: may need someone to fact check that. I've heard it from several different sources, but cannot independently verify it.

I do think most players understand that Tulane has good players too, so question is, do they want an increase fight for playing time ? But the Tulane players could be moving also… The kicker, in today’s world, they could get some $$ to move. It’s a mess but interesting all the same.

IF you have already transferred, you have used your transfer with the immediate eligibility option. Anything else goes before the NCAA and you wait and wait and wait on them to allow your immediate eligibility.

It's my understanding they will grant you an extra 30 days (past the limit) to enter the transfer portal after a coaching change but not waive the one free transfer rule because of it.

I had heard it on the radio, and on twitter a few times, but wasn't sure after not finding anything about it on google.
