Nice win tonight by both our women's and men's teams. I wasn't at the women's game, but it sounds like they had to work hard for the victory. I was at the men's game and believe me when I say it was a tale of two halves. We came out flat, couldn't shoot, couldn't play defense, couldn't get anything going. We went into the locker room at the half up 34-31. We came out for the second half and played like our shorts were on fire. At the 10 minute time out, we were up 64-43 and the game was essentially over. It was nice to see the energy and skill in the second half that was missing in the first.
A couple of things I noticed. Over all, we seem to be longer than last season, having the ability to have multiple rotations with all 5 guys at 6'5" or better. Christian Turner and Lydell Geffrard are our two big forwards and we will need them down low this season. Duke Dean, when he's hot, is deadly.
This is going to be a fun team to watch.

Had to do a double take when you said duke dean.
Duke Miles is still with us. Dean transferred but was one of my favs last year.

Glad the men got a win, but let’s keep in mind that it was over Montevallo a Division II school that finished with a losing record last year.
Who is excited for the Women’s college from Mississippi! How thrilling for the men to have such a juggernaut opponent. Hey while we’re at it, let’s go ahead and schedule some of these local middle school and high school teams around the area!
Don’t understand how we’ve been letting this fly for so long! I understand maybe one smaller school on the schedule but if you’re a division, one team, you should be playing Division I opponents. Even if that means you have to pony up and pay them to come to Troy or do some away and home deal.
The mens schedule never ceases to amaze me. It’s been an absolute embarrassment the last couple of years.

But also check most other teams schedule and you will find the same thing.

It’s been an absolute embarrassment the last couple of years. You have to win to get relevant teams to come to Troy. That's what Scott Cross is steadily trying to do. Nobody is going to travel to Troy to play a team that has typically had an RPI/NET rating in the 250's for the past decade. Troy becomes an attractive opponent for other schools to play when they know that playing us will help their NET... If Troy can become an annual winner, you'll start to see the well-known opponents come to Troy without our AD having to throw a crap ton of cash at them.
