He was good, but certainly not irreplaceable.
There were a lot of frustrating moments where he didn't muscle his way to the bucket, or he'd get stripped down low on the way up because of poor ball handling. Odigie had a lot of turnovers.
I think the young 6'10" Nate Tshimanga has as much or more potential.

Efe's good must have out-weighed his weakness; he's worth $30k to SMU. Hope that you're correct about Nate but don't hear of anyone throwing buck$ his way?? Next season a hugely ? without Efe in the lineup. Standing by..... at last count we're down to 4 players??

That whole thing was a sham and an injustice. The President of the NCAA at the time was a Texas graduate and was simply tired of a small private school beating his school. aTm too. When my brother visited SMU he played racquetball with an Assistant Coach...an egregious violation of NCAA rules...his car, rent, food, etc. were all paid for by SMU alums...both of his/my parents!!! He had to spend hours answering questions without a lawyer to a panel of NCAA lawyers who questioned the legality of even that. They still ended up trying to ban him and others from ever playing college football again...seriously. A threatened lawsuit and the fear of exposure eventually let him transfer without punishment. The whole deal obviously left a scar on my family.

SMU wasn't doing anything that other SWC teams were doing at the time and the $$ amounts that this NIL will reach will be like the Troy Football Budget in 1982 vs 2022

North Carolina basketball commits recruiting violations San Jose State basketball gets probation for lesser violations - because it's good publicity
The big names have always cheated in a big way - and the NCAA did NOT care because they got paid no matter what
If they at least put the small schools on probation - they "DID" something

Can we just call them professional teams or personal service agencies and drop the pretense about going to school?

There is a point where some universities will just freak out by what it is becoming ….non-educational institutions that propagate diversity and professional athletics to the finest thru equity as in equity funds. Go Mustangs! A bit long for a bumper sticker but you get the idea.

$36,000 to be a bench player. Kinda reminds me of kids getting a "Letter of Participation", regardless of merit. Efe did nothing to enhance his future potential in Basketball except prove he is mobile. Three different teams in Three years.

Efe Odigie was named a starter in SMU's exhibition game... and only played 14 minutes, shooting the ball just 4 times and going 2 for 4 at the FT line... he wound up on the bench for most of the game after not playing well.
Curious how his time goes at SMU... he may be disappointed.
