It's buy week in Tuscaloosa. As most major schools do, Alabama will buy a win against an inferior opponent today, paying $450,000 to beat Chattanooga in a game fans must attend or pay to watch on pay-per-view. Alabama offered a $10 food discount and a Nick Saban photo for fans to buy tickets today. The difference with Alabama and buy games from other schools: No team in the country bypasses its state quite like the Crimson Tide. Today, Alabama plays its 252nd consecutive nonconference opponent from out of state, spanning 69 years. Alabama's last nonconference game against a team from Alabama was a 63-7 win over Howard College (now Samford) in 1944. Two years ago, Auburn played its first in-state nonconference opponent (Samford) since 1996. Auburn played Alabama A&M in 2012 and is scheduled to play Jacksonville State in 2015. Alabama has now played nonconference opponents from 28 states since the Howard College game. Colorado joined the list this year when Alabama played Colorado State. "I personally do not have an issue playing in-state schools," Saban said at SEC Media Days in July 2011. "In fact, we sort of instituted at LSU that we do that. We played Tulane, but they hadn't played the other schools. We started to do that so it promoted all the programs in-state. So I certainly would support the effort to do that in our state in Alabama." ( Full Article)
