I knew if John Hartwell had a successful run as Troy’s athletic director, a bigger school (or at least in this case, a school who could offer a Brinks truck of more money than Troy) would be calling. I thought he might give Troy four good years, maybe five, but Utah State apparently made an offer he could not refuse. Hartwell’s tenure as of now looks like a success. Hires in football and men’s basketball will help define his final Trojan legacy, but as of now, the department seems to be going in the right direction. According to a recent USA Today study, Troy’s funding in every format except ticket sales increased in Hartwell’s tenure, leaving the athletic budget with about $8 million more in 2014 than in 2012, when Hartwell started at Troy. m.dothaneagle.com/blogs/troy_story/names-who-might-appear-in-search-for-new-troy-athletic/article_3f886a4e-0bec-11e5-8a55-876513071c9d.html?mode=jqm

On paper Ponder looks like he would be a great hire!

Farmer - Lafayette is far from being a small rural town. It has 10x more going on than Montgomery. The town is booming. 3 daily direct flights each to Houston, Denver and Atlanta. Seriously, BakerHughes, Halliburton, Schlumberger, Cameron, Petroquest, FreeportMcMoran and other Oil & Gas companies are heavy supporters of SWLA. From what I hear, Farmer just does what he is told to do by boosters and Hudspeth. AND the people Lafayette support SWLa and can't stand LSU.
Williams - if that dude gets hired, I am burning all of my Troy gear. LB did all the fund-raising when he was in charge.
Atkins - why not keep the momentum going and hire her? No "getting-up-to-speed" period with her. She would be like 1,000,000x better than the two other clowns with Troy connections.

Agree with Ho.
I haven't found one Cajun fan who likes Farmer... Ponder would be a good choice IMO

Johnny Williams won't take the job. The rest of the names I'm not impressed with. Still think we need to look at the AD of Coastal Carolina and FL Gulfcoast. Both have come out of now where to athletic prominence

Do we want another Ole Miss guy? Maybe so or do we want a different approach or view? Whatever is best for Troy. Just stating my opinion. Never said I wasn't impressed with Hartwell. I think he did a great job at Troy

I'll admit that I haven't given much thought to it, but I really like Farmer. I liked him a lot while he was at Troy and I've been very impressed with what he's done in LA.

Lala can pay more and he has a established winner there with the best fan support in the Sun Belt. Don't see him leaving for a lateral move but anything is possible

I'd hire "Ole Miss" everytime if they work as hard as John to be successful. Fund raising is a big part of it for sure but for ANY G5 school to survive going forward "Game Day" development will have to take alot of time/thought by the next AD .....John understood that and any "Ole Miss" guy/gal will as well....... Oxford MS has 900 more people in it than Troy and nobody has "Game Day" Bubble like "Ole Miss". We need someone who understands this "Bubble" and will continue to tweak it to increase it's size. Let's get Bubblicious!!

He has worked at Arizona State and Ole Miss. Arizona state is the largest college in the country. The question is what is the formula for fundraising at a college with 80,000 students and hundreds of thousands of alumni going to be the same that will work at a college is the size of Troy. If those ideas will work at Troy then It can only benefit Troy. The flipside is that certain things you can't do at school the size of Troy and perhaps experience at a school similar to Troy can be beneficial. One of the advantages of a school the size of a Arizona State or a University of Central Florida is if you attach a $200 athletic fee per student you've raised almost $16 million right there x 2 semesters = 32 million. Hoping we get the right person to fill the job and will continue to march Troy on upward

The figures are higher including satelite campuses. My son attends UCF, they will hit 80,000 in the fall. They were #2 behind ASU but are supposed to be #1 this fall. They include a couple of satelite campuses in that figure but all fees are the same. The main Orlando campus is probably around 60,000 by itself. when we did his orientation they informed us then (2013) that ASU was #1 at 78,000 and UCF was #2 at 72,000

He backed into the job and does very little other than show up for photo ops. Once that perv Hudspeth leaves the football program with a new cheerleader in tow, they might implode (he dumped his wife and two kids for a UNA cheerleader-classy). Lafayette/New Iberia is 20x wealthier than Montgomery and they support SWLa not LSU which helps.
