If there ever was a time to face the Ole Miss Rebels in basketball this year, it would be their season opener – and that is just what the Troy Trojans will do Friday night.
The Trojans will tip off their regular season against the Rebels, who are coming off a 27-win season in 2012-13, which tied their best mark in program history. While that may sound like a daunting task, the Rebels will be without their leading scorer Marshall Henderson, whom the team suspended for the game.
Being without the eccentric Henderson definitely makes an impact on Ole Miss, but Trojans head coach Phil Cunningham said the Rebels will still provide a major challenge.
“ They’ve got a lot of guys back. I’ve seen how hard they’re recruiting, how efficient they are in recruiting,” the longtime Mississippi State assistant said. “They’re a long, athletic team that makes plays in transition.”
Cunningham also praised Rebels head coach Andy Kennedy for building a consistently strong program.
In Kennedy’s seven seasons, Ole Miss has had six 20-win seasons. The Rebels reached the NCAA Tournament’s round of 32 for just the third time last year. (Full Article)
