TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team found a way to pull out a 73-60 win over West Florida on Thursday night in exhibition play at Trojan Arena. Despite a rocky first half, four players tallied double digits to help propel the Trojans over the Argonauts. "This team, in general, it is going to be a long process," head coach Phil Cunningham said. "It will be rough early. We have a tough schedule. We have a lot of new guys so we are learning on the fly. Again, that is why it was a good opportunity tonight against a good, well-coached team. We have to work hard. Cliché coaches' talk here, but we have to keep working hard every day and get better every day." troytrojans.com/news/2014/11/6/MBB_1106141110.aspx?path=mbball

. First time I can remember where we have a freshman not only playing but starting. This is how you build for the future. They might surprise us this year but I think next year is where you will see improvement. Maestri left a nightmare.

Wow, that was a 7-20 team in Division II, last year. Hope Phil has more insight for adjustments or this season could be brutal.

First game with some chemistry issues that will only get better. That's why we play exhibition games.

It isn't unusual for these types of exhibitions to be too close for comfort. Every once in a while the D 2 team wins. UAB lost theirs. Syracuse lost theirs a few years ago and ended up making the sweet 16. The player rotation isn't set yet and guys that won't play many minutes during the regular season usually get quite a few minutes in these types of games. it really isn't anything to be concerned about yet.

We also have a very good player injured and not playing - everyone quit being so quick to write these guys off as a disaster. Not sure if any of you have met Persons, Jr. but the kid has a huge smile on his face all the time and he will make all the guys around him better. He loves the game and plays with passion. I promise Coach C is trying his best to build a winning attitude which turns into a winning team.

Person is going to be a REALLY good one but he sure needs help. Short guys can't go to the basket on 6'9" guys. We seemed lost against press but when Person got hot he was fun to watch. Some of our 3 pointers were from 4' beyond the line. That's tough! If you're hitting then great but those shots have VERY low success rates. Ole Miss had two outstanding shooters.

Ole Miss is far from a great team, but they were very fast and very athletic.
