At the very least, the pep band should make the trips. I think the fans and the team feed off of the band and it's obvious when watching the team interact with the band post game who much they appreciate them. The band can make a difference in the energy level and that could be a key factor in these games.

I agree 100% they SHOULD be there, but they have been absent at most of the big road games over the past several seasons. Most likely due to a peanut festival, band camp or fall festival somewhere..........

In 2008 it costs SOTS around 50k to travel to the MUTS for an overnight game....I don't want to imagine what it would take now. 325ish people with per diem for full band, around 150 for Pep Band and it's all got to come from the band account.

Daughter did SOTS in 2013-2014. Really sad the lack of funding for what they do. They gave the band members at the time a $300 scholarship for doing it and then you paid for shoes, helmet, gloves, your instrument, uniform cleaning etc so it actually costs you money to play in the band.

Other college bands, like that one up in Calhoun County, still do fund raising and maintain a band booster organization like high school bands. That's how they go on some of the trips they've taken over the years.
I'm not suggesting SOTS should do this, it takes study time away from students and generally, it just shouldn't have to be that way. Part of me is surprised that they get it done, though.

There is an alumni band that people join but think about what most of the band alumni do, they're band directors with no money to give either

We (alumni band) do give some money, but it goes to a couple of scholarships for band members, I believe.
