Coach Cross and Rigby [and staff] are Great coaches. Our problem is RECRUITING!!!!!!! Both teams are TURNOVER MACHINES and not that talented. Season starts NOW with signing TALENT!!!

We have to sign players who can mix it up in the paint and attack the basket. Cant win the Sunbelt and the tournament just trying to shoot 3 pointers and can’t rebound if you do!

I’m not saying he should be fired this year. I fully expect to win the SBC next year, but I thought we would this year too though. If we do not win next year, that would be six years without a NCAA birth. Yes, I understand he inherited a less than talented team. I think I’m reasonable in my thought process. I promise you one thing, if our new Football coach doesn’t win the SBC in his first 6 years and has an average record between 7-5 or 8-4 you’ll all be asking for new leadership.

First, Cross knows how to coach ball. That has been proven. Also, it heavily trends that his teams do not and have not played well in conference tournaments nor postseason when he has gotten there.
Yes NIL will work against teams like Troy in the Sunbelt. But most other teams in the Sunbelt have the same NIL issues as Troy. Troy is being compared to TX ST, GATA and USA, not Kentucky, Duke and Tennessee.
And Cross should not be in the conversation to be fired. That foolish at this point.

We would probably have been 17-16 if we didn’t play 3 really good high school teams. I like Coach Cross, I think he is a pretty good recruiter. That said, winning championships is what matters. Heck, Coach Cunningham won a SBC championship. Actually, Troy was ranked #33 in the nation in Pythagorean wins, which is games Troy probably should have won based on statistical performance versus their competition. According to that data, Troy was very, very close to being 26-5. With a team that had what, just 3 players returning? And was picked to finish 12th in the SBC? Stop using facts. They aren't allowed here.

Agree to disagree. We shouldn’t be happy with only making it to the SBC quarterfinals the last two years and the semifinals 3 years ago. I'll make 2 points. 1) If you were to poll the members of this board, including those of us who disagree that firing Cross next year should even be an option, you'll find that 95% of us are NOT happy with the way the season turned out. We had a chance to make noise, and we are all disappointed that we came up short. Nobody is saying "Let's throw a party and celebrate getting bounced in the quarter finals". When all the dust settles and the post season is done, we can celebrate the successes we enjoyed this year (20 wins for the 3rd straight season; record attendance, ticket sales, and revenue; 3 players earning post season awards (Myles Rigsby, Tayton, and Spud), and a number 3 seed in the conference tourney for a team that was picked to finish in the lower third of the conference. Those are successes, and the last one is a testament to HCSC and his ability to inspire, teach, and lead a bunch of YOUNG college basketball players. 2) Don't forget, we played the final two games of the schedule without Jackson Fields and the tourney game with a Jackson Fields that I'm sure was not at full speed. It's a long season, and every team has players get banged up and injured, and every team must find a way to overcome those injuries (if you look at what what Valdez and Conerway did the final two regular season games, you'll see we didd that) but losing Jackson was a a huge blow and it's impact cannot be discounted.

Troy has, for the most part, been a football school for decades. Troy fans are used to a lot of winning in football. Basketball here is not that way. Ever since 2005, Troy has been pretty awful. Now that we have a coach reaching the 20-win milestone consistently, it's kind of nice, even he hasn't won a title yet. A basketball coach that's not winning titles but still winning lots of games will have a longer leash at Troy.

I think Chanda could be a lifer at Troy. The fanbase loves her and she always has our team with a chance to compete.
I think Cross's consistent success without matching titles/post season appearances (that matter) won't be a factor in Troy moving on, but it could cause him to go on. He might shrug his shoulders one of these days and say, "You just can't win men's basketball titles here."

That may well be true and look for a job like a Tulane where they do have more money and think a 20 win guy can do it for us. Because he has not had the resources to secure the team. So, yep I agree with you. Let’s face it women’s Bball while portal laden etc is not the same animal as men’s.

While true, this would be a second school that Cross rarely/never got across the finish line. He's going to need to consistently contend for the title by playing in the game a few times before he gets a bigger job. I love what he's built here. He has the talent. Now he needs to develop/recruit some leaders that are clutch, that won't let the team lose in crucial moments. When Phil got us to the tournament, he had recruited Florida transfer DeVon Walker to join us for one year.. DeVon wasn't the volume scorer, but the was a guy that contributed the key rebound, the key assist, the key steal when it was needed. The scoring talent was already there with Person, Varnado, Hollimon, etc. He just needed to bring the leadership and grittiness, and he did. That's why Troy got hot at the right time and rolled through the SBC tournament. This team was overall very young. We may have the most talent that our school's ever seen, but there's something to say about have that grizzled veteran that refuses to lose.

I can see a future in which both Dowd and Rigsby develop into that leader, each with different, but complimentary, skills and personalities.

At some point, if you keeping producing duds during championship opportunities, it will end, one way or another. Like you said, the talent is/has been there.
