Ralph Black is an icon of Troy State athletics for over 25 years. To spend time with him was to have access to a walking encyclopedia of local, Trojan and national sporting history as well as Big Band and other musical genre history.
After the affiliation with IMG, Ralph was booted from Troy University sportscasting. When he received the TU Sports HOF award several years ago, Ralph quipped, "I'm the only nominee who went from the Hall of Shame to the Hall of Fame!"
One of a kind. Ralph will be missed. RIP

Ralph was a legend who loved the city and the University but I think he loved local high school sports even more. He will be missed!

Never understood why they took him off the air. He was fantastic as a play by play guy.

I had the opportunity to take a road trip to MTSU with him and a mutual friend. His stories and knowledge were absolutely amazing. Great man that will be missed by many.

Never understood why they took him off the air. He was fantastic as a play by play guy. He was certainly a legend. The football teams across Pike County were certainly lucky to have someone like him calling their games, post-Troy. Not often you get a radio veteran like that to call high school games. I'm grateful we have a legend in Barry McKnight that took over for him.

Ralph Black was a wonderful man who will be dearly missed by all who knew him and remember his calls of the games. We were truly blessed to have him represent Troy during his tenure. RIP Mr. Ralph.
Go TROY!
