1) TROJAN arena is a fun place to be when full of loud TROJANS (see also vs UA'sB earlier this year) 2) These guys DO NOT give up. They fought back multiple times from 9 -10 pts down to close the gap to 1 and just couldn't get over the top. 3) Not only do they not give up, they fight. the energy expended by these guys last night was tremendous. 4) Sun Belt refs suck. They aren't the reason we lost, but they were terrible. 5) We MUST, and I repeat, MUST get bigger. Until we are able to power our way into the paint and control (at least at times) that part of the court, we will continue to lose these games. 3's are exciting, but when you are FORCED to shoot them because you can't get inside, it's going to be more than difficult to be hot enough to win. 6) Did I mention, Sun Belt refs suck? 7) We are on the right track. We will win, and soon (see vs GA State x 2).
What did I miss?

Actually, I think you summed things up pretty nicely. I was watching on TV and even the announcers were baffled by some of the calls. But the reason for the loss was simply not getting enough shots to fall.

This is a great point. I will add that having a presence inside makes the 3 more consistent because of being able to have an inside out look at the basket. They already hustle but imagine a big man getting 4 to 5 assist per game because we fed him the ball and he gave it back to a hot hand from 3 who is now wide open because the opposing defense has to respect the Lane threat. Our perimeter players would have many free looks at the basket both from 3 and from hustle down the lane for an easy J or dunk. I am excited about Scott Cross and his style of coaching. D, hustle, sacrifice, etc. have been needed in this program for a long time especially D and D adjustments in the game. I don't know how long it will take him but we will have a championship team before he is done at TROY.

We have that inside presence in Tyrek Williams, the 6'8" 260 Freshman who injured his leg (knee?) early in the season. I can't remember if it was the UAB or UAPB game in which he had 10 pts in VERY limited playing time. He did to his defender what 33 did to us last night (and last year) - he backed his defender to the basket in put up easy lay ins off the board. The issue is, he can't play 40 minutes and, as good as he is, Stampley's frame doesn't allow him to get that physical and be overpowering while doing so. We weren't just outsized down low last night, 🚫s guys were, man to man, 10-15 heavier. We are very athletic, but we need size. I have a feeling this year's recruiting class will bring some of that. We aren't going to win the conference this year, but Coss's approach, energy, and success will make it much easier to get the athletic bigs we need.

I dont think Tyrek Williams is on the team anymore i've noticed these last couple of games he has been absent and one game i seen him in the stands with street clothes on. I havent seen any commits for next season. Its not many scholarships left for next season...we only have 1 senior. I think we should go in the portal and get a immediate transfer to get a center.

The only thing I want to address is that Sun Belt officials don’t suck. They are non existent.
NCAA basketball is different than football. These officials are all independent, they don’t work in crews and don’t work for a conference. Typically on Thursday night games we get the more experienced guys that you see in SEC and sometimes ACC games because their big nights are Wednesday’s. I expected some big time guys last night since it was as a Friday night and not many big boys were playing in our region of the country... that was not the case though. On Saturday’s we get the guys who are not so experienced and you’ll often see them working SWAC and other smaller conferences rather than SEC.

The fact that on Saturday we get less experienced officials explains a lot. Either way, those guys Friday night didn't call a good game, in my opinion.

As mentioned previously, I believe Tyrek Williams is supposed to be the big man that Scott Cross wanted to have. Unfortunately, Williams has been plagued with injuries since his last season of basketball and I believe has had surgery to fix that. He's out for the year, but I believe is still on the team.
Xavier Williams is another guy that could do great in the paint, but he's suspended. He could be an NBA-caliber player if he bulked up significantly.
If anyone remembers UT-Arlington's playing style back when Scott Cross was there, he always had big dudes that could drive the paint... his last one being Kevin Hervey, who was drafted in the 2nd Round of the NBA Draft. I have no doubt he's working to bring that same style to Troy.

Tyrek is still on the team. He had surgery on his knee in the offseason and never fully recovered. He has no timetable, but likely won’t see the floor again this year.

I wasn't able to make today's game, but I just read on the Twitter that Tyrek Williams returned to the floor in the second half. I assume most of us would consider that to be good news as it gives us the big man inside I referenced above. As a FR, he has 3 years of eligibility left, I'm looking forward to seeing how much difference a legit big inside will make.
