Lane Kiffin, who today was announced as the new head coach at Ole Miss, has elected to not retain the services of current Offensive Coordinator Rich Rodriquez and is, therefore, in need of an O Coordinator for the Rebs. Will someone lease send him (The HC we don’t speak of)âs name and contact info?
Disclaimer: I realize this post isnât directly related to TROJAN football, but it could be.....

I give Kiffin two years before the NCAA launches an investigation at Ole Miss. I believe they already did when Ole Blindside was there

Wouldn't doubt if Chippy is packing his bags this morning. He is in way over his head at HC.

Wouldn't doubt if Chippy is packing his bags this morning. He is in way over his head at HC. Doubt he ever unpacked (old habits die hard) but unfortunately he isn't leaving. Get ready for 4-8 next year..if we are lucky

Would any of you take Rich Rod as a coach? Not saying I would as I would be mixed - but anybody?

I want Matt Moore or Sumrall... or call up XHCNB and ask who he thinks is a rising star in the coaching world.

I would like to see Dan Lanning from Georgia. Expand the recruiting base into Georgia and he is defensive guy.

Sumrall was a defensive guy and the culture of the team would have remained intact. Maybe I can’t promise you anything on the record, but the culture would have remained.

I can’t promise you anything on the record, but the culture would have remained. 100% agree and was well thought of by both fans/alumni and players.

The thing about Sumrall is he hasn't even been a coordinator yet. I know he is well liked because he probably shook your hand and remembers your name, but I think he is ready to be a DC somewhere and not a HC. I believe in the progression from position coach to coordinator to head coach.

I believe in the progression from position coach to coordinator to head coach. I will take what I know versus what you think you know any day. However, since you won’t be coming to the games next year it really won’t matter to you. By the way your progression idea has made for a banner year for Troy football. The qualities required to be a good and successful head coach have little to do with what positions they’ve held in the past. It appears as though the interview and search process for head coach wasn’t handled properly.

I'm confused why the games are televised.
As for my progression idea... yeah not everything works out. Even P5 schools hire a dud from time to time. What you are looking to do though, is take a guy that has 12 years position coaching experience at mediocre football schools (with the exception being when he was at Troy) and vault him to be the head coach of a FBS program. That is a huge risk. By hiring someone who has gone through the progression, you mitigate the risk. Sumrall could well be a HC someday but I don't think Troy should take the risk right now.

Vince Lombardi could never get a team to give him a chance until Green Bay gambled on him late in his career. Worked out pretty well for them. Some coaches have the intangibles to be a HC...others don't. It is a wonderful thing when you find that right one

That worked real well for us. Hire a over rated OC that switches schools every year...he will make a great HC
